MTP Kit is a combination therapy containing two medicines - 1 tablet of Mifepristone and 4 Misoprostol tablets. MTP Kit is recommended for the medical termination of pregnancy no later than 63 days (9 weeks) after the first day of your last menstrual period.

Other names for this medication:

Antipreg Kit®

Similar Products:

Active Ingredient:

Mifepristone, Misoprostol

What MTP Kit is and what it is used for

MTP Kit is composed of Mifepristone and Misoprostol as active ingredients, which cause medical abortion when taken in conjunction. MTP Kit contains 5 tablets: 1 Mifepristone 200 mg tablet and 4 Misoprostol tablets, 200 mcg each.

Mifepristone is a synthetic, steroidal anti-progesterone. It acts as a competitive progesterone receptor antagonist. In a medical abortion, Mifepristone blocks progesterone receptors and causes thereby endometrial decidual degeneration, cervical softening and dilatation, an increase in the sensitivity of the myometrium to the contractile effects of Misoprostol.

Misoprostol is a miscellaneous GI agent - a synthetic analog of prostaglandin E1. Misoprostol causes the cervix to soften and the uterus to contract, resulting in the expulsion of the uterine contents.

After taking the last Misoprostol tablets, cramping pain and bleeding may start within 30 minutes.

Misoprostol also acts on the stomach and intestine, creating a protective lining and thereby protects from ulcer formation.

MTP Kit is recommended for the medical pregnancy termination no later than 63 days (9 weeks) after the first day of your last period.

MTP Kit does not protect you and your partner from sexually transmitted diseases (HIV and the others).

How to use MTP Kit

Take one tablet of Mifepristone. Sometimes light bleeding may occur afterward. Do not worry if this happens, and go on with Mifepristone and Misoprostol treatment. You can take your second medication (Misoprostol) either orally or vaginally anytime between 24 and 48 hours after taking the first tablet (Mifepristone).

How to take Misoprostol tablets orally:

  • Put 4 tablets inside of your mouth between teeth and cheek - two in each side.
  • Keep the tablets there for 30 minutes until they dissolve. They may taste a bit chalky.
  • After half an hour, sip some water and swallow the medicine left in your mouth.
  • The abortion usually happens within 5 hours of taking all MTP Kit tablets.

How to take Misoprostol tablets vaginally:

  • Empty your bladder.
  • Wash your hands and lay back.
  • Gently push 4 Misoprostol tablets into your vagina. Try to push the tablets as far back as it is comfortable. There is no special place where tablets have to be, but you need to make sure they do not fall out for the next 30 minutes.
  • Try to lie down the next 30 minutes.
  • Misoprostol is not usually entirely dissolved in the vagina, therefore, you should not worry if some parts of the tablets come out of your vagina after 30 minutes. The necessary dose is absorbed into the body within 30 minutes.

General recommendations:

  • It is advised best to drink plenty of water throughout the whole process of taking the MTP Kit.
  • Eat a light meal before taking tablets from the kit. It can help prevent nausea.
  • It is better to have somebody nearby to help take care of you or make arrangements in case you need medical assistance.
  • Take anesthetic when experiencing cramping pain, like Ibuprofen (200 mg x 4 times every six hours).

In most cases, women experience bleeding within 1-2 hours or even earlier after taking Misoprostol tablets. Women commonly pass pregnancy during the next 4-5 hours. The symptoms like nausea, diarrhea, some chills, feeling of fever are common during this period.

Be careful while taking MTP Kit for second-trimester abortions, as the chances of serious complications, such as uterine rupture or hemorrhage, rise as pregnancy advances.

Ready access to emergency care in a medical facility is essential, and women should not attempt an abortion alone. They must also be prepared for the passing of a fetus and placenta at this stage.

Seek medical emergency or contact your healthcare provider immediately in case:

  • You do not bleed or have light bleeding followed by severe pain (particularly on the right shoulder), as this may be a sign of ectopic pregnancy.
  • You have abnormal bleeding that does not stop after 1 or 2 hours.
  • You have the fever of over 38 degrees Celcius for more than 24 hours after taking Misoprostol.
  • You have an extreme pain that does not get better and is not relieved by Ibuprofen.
If you take more than you should

If an overdose occurs and you are feeling unwell, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately. MTP Kit is not for use more than once in a monthly cycle.

If you forget to take the medicine

MTP Kit is used only when needed. Do not exceed the doctor's recommended dose. Do not take a double dose of MTP Kit.

Viagra, in the same way as any other medicine shouldn't be abused that is the reason why a Viagra prescription is required. Viagra is prescribed because a patient under Viagra prescription needs to be watched closely due to the side effects that it might cause. Brand Viagra is available only with a physician's prescription. Viagra is a short-term fix and doesn't cure ED. Although established to be a secure and beneficial drug, Viagra isn't acceptable for everybody and might not operate in all situations.
